Terms of Service

Effective date: February 1, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the CanvassLite platform operated at canvasslite.com ("Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Service Description

CanvassLite is a web-based platform that helps political campaigns, civic organizations, and advocacy groups organize door-to-door canvassing operations. The Service provides household mapping, visit tracking, team coordination, and data management tools.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement to use this Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

Campaign organizers create accounts using a valid email address. Volunteers may join campaigns using an invite link and their name, without creating a full account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

3.2 Account Types

  • Owner: The person who creates a campaign. Full administrative access.
  • Co-Owner: Invited by the owner. Same permissions as owner. Maximum 2 per campaign.
  • Organizer: Can manage households, import data, and run sessions.
  • Volunteer: Can view assigned households, log visits, and use team chat.

4. Free Trial

New campaigns receive a 14-day free trial with Growth-level access (up to 2,000 households and 15 volunteers). No credit card is required. When the trial ends, write operations (adding households, logging visits, etc.) are suspended until a paid plan is activated. Your data is preserved — see Section 10 for retention details.

5. Paid Plans and Billing

5.1 Subscription Plans

Monthly subscription plans (Starter, Growth, Pro) are billed on a recurring monthly basis. Seasonal Pass plans (Campaign Pass, Campaign Pro) are one-time payments for access until the end of the campaign.

5.2 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store or have access to your credit card information. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges for monthly plans until you cancel.

5.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are provided for unused time within a billing period.

5.4 Plan Limits

Each plan includes limits on the number of households and volunteers. If you exceed your plan limits, you will need to upgrade to a higher plan. Downgrading to a plan with lower limits does not delete your data — the platform will display the oldest records within your plan limit, and upgrading again restores access to all data.

5.5 Price Changes

We may change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers. Current pricing is always displayed at canvasslite.com/#pricing.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Upload data you do not have the right to use
  • Use the Service for harassment, voter intimidation, or any activity that violates federal, state, or local election laws
  • Attempt to access other campaigns' data or circumvent access controls
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service
  • Resell or redistribute access to the Service without our written consent

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

7. Your Data

7.1 Ownership

You retain full ownership of all data you upload to CanvassLite, including household records, visit data, and campaign information. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.

7.2 License to Operate

By uploading data, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that data solely to provide the Service to you. This license terminates when your data is deleted.

7.3 Data Portability

You may export your campaign data as CSV at any time through the dashboard. We will not hold your data hostage.

7.4 Responsibility for Data

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and use any data in the Service, including compliance with applicable voter data regulations and privacy laws in your jurisdiction.

8. Voter Data Compliance

CanvassLite is a tool that processes data you provide. You are responsible for:

  • Obtaining voter data through legal channels (state voter files, VoteBuilder, L2, etc.)
  • Complying with your state's voter data usage restrictions
  • Not using voter data for commercial purposes unrelated to your campaign
  • Ensuring canvassers follow applicable laws regarding voter contact

CanvassLite does not independently verify the source or legality of uploaded data.

9. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We may perform maintenance, updates, or experience outages. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Active paid accounts: data retained for the duration of the subscription.
  • After trial or subscription ends: data retained for 60 days. A warning email is sent after 30 days. After 60 days, all data is permanently and irreversibly deleted.
  • Manually deleted campaigns: 30-day grace period, then permanent deletion.
  • You may export your data before any deletion occurs.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • CanvassLite is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
  • Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
  • We are not responsible for the outcome of any political campaign, election, or advocacy effort.
  • We are not liable for data loss resulting from account expiration after the published retention period.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold CanvassLite harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any applicable law.

13. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms or our Acceptable Use policy
  • Your account is used for illegal activity
  • Required by law or legal process

Upon termination, you may request an export of your data within 30 days. After 30 days, data is permanently deleted.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 15 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
